Why There's A Need....The average rate of poverty in the seventeen counties that make up Western North Carolina is a staggering 14.44%. 16.5% of North Carolina families with children under 5 years of age live below the poverty level. 11% of single adults in North Carolina somehow manage to survive below the poverty level. 27.4% of North Carolina families struggling below the poverty level are single mother households, of which 45.9% have children under the age of 5. This is alarming, to say the least. We live in the wealthiest country in the world, how could we allow this to continue? Many of these folks would jump at the chance to further their education. WE ARE GIVING THEM THE OPPORTUNITY.
The Key to undoing this and many of our other dilemmas is education and a chance. Source: U.S. Census Bureau, 2000 |
